Welcome to the DM Flash test FAQ pages. Hopefully this information will help you understand what the DM Flash tests looks for; how it can be used to assist in the diagnosis of GSDM; and when you should consider testing your dog with the DM Flash test. GSDM has been known as a specific entity since 1973 when Dr. Skip Averille first showed that it was a pathologic condition caused by a unique process. Although it has been more than 30 years since then, we are only now beginning to understand the genetic factors that may play a role in the condition. The DM Flash test is part of that new understanding. The test was named in honor of Jack Flash, a German Shepherd dog who died from the condition. Many pets and patients have lost their battle with GSDM, but we hope that, with new advanced in detection and treatment of GSDM, we will ultimately win the war.
